It has been a crazy couple of weeks! After a wonderful week long vacation in the Outer Banks with some good friends and a visit from my friend Heather (which culminated in an amazing Mumford & Sons concert in downtown Raleigh), I'm finally getting all caught in the hundreds of images I've taken over the past few weeks.
A week before we left for vacation, I took a quick trip down to the new Contemporary Art Museum in downtown Raleigh. The building itself is a work of art, with the sculptural front awning, the clean modern interiors, and the abundance of natural light. I've always struggled to understand contemporary art, but the exhibitions on display have whimsical and unique qualities, which make them easy for everyone to enjoy.
Here are photos of some of my favorite pieces. The big walk in environment by Dan Steinhilber, which you enter through a refrigerator door into a totally different world is incredibly cool! I also love his coat hanger sculptures - amazing use of such an ordinary object. Naoko Ito's collection - Urban Nature is hauntingly beautiful. There is so much more to see than what I photographed, (including an interactive light up wall made of florescent lights!) so head downtown and check this place out!
