Dallas Arboretum Motherhood Session | Dallas Film Maternity Photography

So thrilled to be sharing this film maternity session I shot for my lovely friend Liz, at the Dallas Arboretum. Liz brought along her 1.5 year old little one for part of the session and she was so cute. Busy and curious, as any toddler, she ran around exploring and laughing, but was more than happy to give her baby sister, kisses and her mama, hugs.

Having a second child brings a whole new set of changes to a family. You already know to expect the sleep deprivation and the constant needs of a newborn, but you don’t know how you’ll manage that and the previous life with your first born. Liz’s composure and peace about this new little one is so inspirational. It is such an honor to photograph motherhood and families. What a gift a new life is and I can’t not wait to meet this little one!

G Family | Dallas Fine Art Family Photography

Although the majority of my photography is wedding related, every now and then I have a chance to shoot a family session and they are always so much fun! Marriage results in the creation of a family, (even if it’s just the husband and wife family) so photographing a family is an opportunity to capture the next phase of a marriage. Of course, I’m a bit of a sucker for some cute babies now that I’m a mom, so I’ll never turn down the opportunity to hang out with one (and maybe sneak a cuddle).

When Megan asked me to take photos of their family, I knew the exact location - Arbor Hill Preserve in Plano. It’s such a gorgeous location with lots of natural beauty and some paved paths for crawling. I’m so glad that we did this session when we did, because Jack is just ready to move! In the next couple months this kid is going to be sprinting everywhere, so it was a great idea to get some photos of him before that next big milestone.

Before our shoot, I sent Megan some style boards for inspiration on their outfit choices and I think it really paid off. They looked so great together and their coordinating choices elevated the quality of the photos. I love to offer custom inspiration boards to my clients for their portrait sessions. Choosing outfits can be so overwhelming and I love to do anything I can to relieve some of that stress from my clients.

Here are some of my favorites from our session. Hope you enjoy!

J Fall Family Photos | Brooklyn Family Photography

Like so many families I meet in Brooklyn, the J family had relocated from somewhere not so nearby. In this case, China, which I find pretty cool. There's only so much time to ask personal questions during a session, so I didn't quite get my curiosity about living in China satisfied, but maybe another time. I meet up with the J family and their dog Frida late October in Prospect Park, for a very relaxed photo session. Sara had asked me for a lot of candid photos of the family, because she (like a lot of parents) didn't have many pictures of the three of the together. Fall just so happens to be a great time for fun candid photos, because leaves on the ground make for such a fun game for a one year old.  Kai just turned one year old and is already bilingual (yes, I feel a tiny bit of jealousy, just a tiny one)! He has a thoughtful expression, like a lot of one year olds. We found some leaves to play in and he dove right into the fun of throwing leaves in the air. How can you resist - right? Even Frida got in on the fun.
